Have you ever felt that Gen Z and Gen Alpha simply don’t understand what we’re trying to tell them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To be honest, I used to wonder whether they lacked maturity or common sense. We often try to teach them what we believe are “good habits,” but instead of appreciating them, they sometimes see those lessons as unnecessary restrictions or an invasion of their personal freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As parents and Millennials, we need to understand that they think differently\u2014not incorrectly. Here are a few things I’ve learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you say “No,”<\/strong> always explain why<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our generation grew up accepting a “No” from our parents without asking many questions. We obeyed first and rarely demanded an explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That approach doesn’t work anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gen Z and Gen Alpha expect a logical and convincing reason. If your explanation makes sense, they are more likely to accept it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Keep your explanation short, clear, and direct<\/strong>. Long lectures usually don’t work because they process information differently. Their attention span has been shaped by short-form content like reels and social media. Long conversations often get mentally skipped, even if your intention is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They are incredibly quick learners and highly intelligent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In many areas, they have access to far more information than we ever had at their age. However, the challenge is that their knowledge is often unstructured<\/strong>. They consume massive amounts of information from different sources, which can sometimes leave them confused or overwhelmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a result, what we perceive as stubbornness, impatience, or unnecessary anger is often just information overload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Instead of treating them like children, communicate with them as individuals who deserve respect. Speak in short, meaningful, and convincing sentences. Stay calm. Avoid being overly authoritative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One interesting observation is that many Gen Zs genuinely respect Millennials\u2014not because Millennials know everything, but because they recognize that our experience adds value to what we say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Unlike previous generations, Gen Z rarely spends months creating perfect plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They don’t always build Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C before taking action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Instead, they usually start with a small idea, take action quickly, and learn along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their growth model is very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They make mistakes. Social media has played a huge role in shaping this mindset. Every day, we see ordinary creators with limited resources becoming successful simply by consistently creating, learning, and improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\nNever Underestimate Them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Don’t Constantly Question Their Decisions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
They learn.
They improve.
Then they try again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
